Summer Mix

So I just started getting back into trying to see more shows in my area so with this I kinda haven't been around to update anything. At all. So I thought I would do a post on some of the bands I've been listening to lately. First off I feel kinda lame for not getting the new Good Luck ep sooner, kinda feel like the last one to have heard of there release(especially its a pay what you want release). But Good Luck is a really awesome band from Bloomington,Indiana that plays really happy pop punk that normally will at least make you smirk the first time you give them a listen. Or at least that happened to me. I won't guarantee it. Point is though these guys play real happy music that is really addicting to listen to, and pretty honest in its lyrics. Along with the pop punk binge I have been on I was able to see Lemuria last Thursday. That was a good show. Along with Lemuria I got to see some local DCHC bands such as Sick Fix, Isla, and Transgression which was a tight show. Too bad the fire marshall shut it down and Torche had to be moved else where. Anyways, Lemuria is an Indie/Punk/ Powerpop band (says myspace) that has recently been gaining attention for these kids just got signed onto Bridge 9 records. This band hails from Buffalo New York and will be touring alot this summer with bands like Polar Bear Club, the Carrier, Cloak/Dagger, and Moving mountains. They're a tight heart felt band thats got plenty of catchy tunes. Also the new Max Levine Ensemble ep came out, which really wasn't that new at all since it turns out I had the tape all along and never put two and two together.

Max Levine Ensemble

So its about 80 degrees out and with humidity your face should be melted off by now. Its summer in the D.C. metropolitan area again so that basically means ska, pop punk, biking to wherever the fuck you need to go, and basement shows where your cloths melt off. Add these all together with more DIY ideals and being goofy and positive and you get The Max Levine Ensemble. This band reigning in from D.C. is an awesome pop punk/ ska band to listen too when your trying to just have a rad jam during the summer or bummed out about those you go to high school( or work with). It's fronted by folk punk singer Spoonboy, which can easily be told by his vocals and lyrics. Not only they are just rad jams but they are an awesome band to see live being pretty high energy and when you see them their more about having fun and not doing the whole flannel cross armed waltz around the small space you already got. I got the chance to see these guys last year with BTMI!, Good Luck, and Control which was a rad concert not only cause the line up just killed to begin with but also it was the first concert I started getting into the whole DIY ideals shindig. But back to the point, they are a generally fun band to see live and listen to so check them out, look out for their new EP coming out at the end of May called Them Steadily Depressing, Low Down Mind Messing , Post Modern Recession Blues, support them and see them if you can cause these guys will be touring around D.C. during the summer.

Grown Ups

So yesterday between shitting my pants for finals and lurking on the internet I got my hands on the new Grown Ups full length that came out surprisingly early since it feels like yesterday when their demo came out, which was still ringing in my ears three months after my first listen. And shit their new full length is goooood. It's the first CD in a while I've been putting on repeat and is a good fun summer emo jamz cd. So basically the Grown Ups is this midwestern emo/ pop punk (Chicago/ Furnessville says their myspace) which have been getting alot of attention since their, well a real good band. They sound like basically like pop punk versions like Snowing (thanks chug life for hitting the nail on the head) or like Street Smart Cyclist and Algernon Cadwallader. There pretty tite and a good fast listen. They are also touring with Snowing and My Heart to joy on the east coast this summer so check them out.
